trevin's 4th birthday party!

this year's theme: spiderman!

^ the balloons

^ there were so many willing "baby holders" at the party, trayson slept peacefully through the whole thing. =)

^ spinning around a blindfolded trevin to play the spiderman game.

^ teagan's turn

^ daveny seems a bit confused by the whole blindfold part.

^ we don't have anywhere to hang a pinata, so poor patrick, being the tallest, had to hold it up. we happened to have a crutch handy to help gain some height though. =)

^ horray for pull-string pinatas. no blindfolded kids with bats in my house!

^ woo-hoo! candy!

^ the cake

^ blowing out the candle. (this took a few tries)

^ bakugan! bakugan!
trevin has been obsessed with getting bakugans lately. he doesn't watch the show, but some kid at the playground had one like 2 months ago and he wanted it. so i told him to see if he got one for his bday. thank goodness he did!

^ and, of course, spiderman action figures

^ here we have what appears to be a batman-jedi. =)

^ and this is a spider-iron-man. =)

trayson's first bath

may 17, 2003- shane and i got married.

may 17, 2010- trayson took his first real bath. =)
^ at first, he wasn't so sure what was going on. he liked being in the water. but then...

^ he very quickly decided he didn't like the whole suddsing up part!

^ afterward, once he was wrapped up in a snuggly towel, he decided to forgive me.

^ he looks a little confused by whatever he just went through.

^ but in the end, he decided it wasn't so bad. =)

trayson's here! =)

our third boy, trayson matthew hafner, was born on may 8th at 4:50 pm weighing 8 lbs 10 oz, 20 inches long. =) i went in to the hospital with very mild contractions thinking they'd most likely turn me away, but those quickly turned more serious and 4 hrs later, he was here!
^ God works in mysterious ways. because of his injuries, shane was here for the birth! =)

^ yep, that says 8 lbs 9.8 oz he's a big boy!
and very red. =)

^ kisses from daddy

^ and kisses from mommy too!

^ 2 days old.

^ we're ready to go home!

^ grandma rogers (with the dogs) holding trayson, who has been given an orange tractor by one of the boys.

^ with beckie, who dropped everything to come help me. i can't thank her enough!

^ looking at mommy

^ kisses!

^ waking up to look around

^ the proud big brothers.

^ teagan's always asking to hold him.

^ with grandma again. *thank you grandma for coming out to help!* =)

^ this is a horrible picture of me, but i think it really captures the chaos here. holding a baby and a dog, the laundry on the couch, the couch pillows all askeew. not to mention how tired i look. =)

^ just hangin' out, bein' cute.

^ in the swing. although, he's not much of a fan. he prefers being held. which, unfortunately for him, isn't always an option!

^ lily babysitting for me

^ the boys getting a closer look at trayson, who's holding his head up to see them.

^ the first smile i managed to capture on camera. he started smiling around 3 weeks old, but they're hard to catch!

some pics from may

most of the pictures we took in may were of trayson. but a few weren't. here they are. =)
^ this was taken the 1st so i'm 39 weeks along.

^ i LOVE this picture! i just wish all of beckie's kids could be in it. 3 out of 5's not bad though. there's beckie holding emma, shelby, raylee holding teagan, trevin and me, holding trayson. =)

^ trevin poking trayson in the "eyes".

^ the 3 musketeers, together again! =) raine just happened to be passing through town on the 13th. while he hung out w/his bestest buds, emily and jeremy were able to meet baby trayson.

^ silly slippers teagan! one ninja turtle and one dinosaur foot. and, as usual, no pants. =)

our unexpected trip to bethesda, maryland

on april 14th at 5 pm i got the worst call a wife wants to get when her husband is deployed to a war zone. fortunately, shane was well enough that he was able to call me himself to inform me of his injuries, so i knew when i heard his voice that it wasn't as bad as it could have been! but the news wasn't good.
that day he had been on a foot patrol when an IED (improvised explosive device or bomb, simply put) went off just meters away. thankfully, the men weren't right on top of it so no one lost their lives or limbs. but all the men involved had injuries. shane got a broken foot along with several shrapnel wounds.
i spent the next day mostly on the phone trying to gather information, get the story straight, and keep family and friends updated with what little info i knew. it took a few days to figure out just where he was going for surgery and whether or not i could go to be with him. but we figured it out and were able to drive up to maryland to see him on the 18th.
i didn't know the extent of his wounds, so i didn't even tell the boys where we were going or that daddy would be there, just in case he was in such a condition i wouldn't want the boys to see him that way. but it turns out the worst of his injuries were to his knees and foot, so the boys were able to see him and i think they understand on an age-appropriate level what happened.
^ seeing daddy for the first time in 3 months!
this was taken the 19th, amazingly just 5 days after he got hurt. thanks to the volcano in iceland, shane was sent straight to the states instead of to germany.

^ teagan's turn for a kiss!

^ the stress of the injuries and the trip were really rough on me and trayson, so i took this pic in the hotel bathroom, just in case i went into labor. i wanted one last pic of that huge belly of mine! =) this was 4/22 so i'm 38 weeks along.

^ the boys in the hotel room. they did really well under the circumstances, although i can't say that that's doing well under any other circumstances! haha!
my very dear and brave friend, emily, drove 6 hrs to our home in NC to accompany us on our trip and help with the boys. without her i couldn't have made it and i am FOREVER grateful to her and to God for giving me such a wonderful friend! =)

^ finally home! after nearly 2 weeks in maryland, shane was able to come home! =)
by then, emily had flown home to be with her family and my sister, beckie, had flown out to take her place as my assistant... but that's a whole other story... =)

April 2010

just when i thought i was doing pretty good keeping this up to date, shane gets hurt, i have a baby, trevin has his birthday... SO much has happened in the past 2 months, it may take me a while to update this blog!
here are pictures from the beginning of april.
^ teagan and trevin started sharing a room around the end of march so they could (hopefully) get used to being in the same room before trayson was born. but trevin wakes up a couple hours before teagan would, if left to wake up naturally. and of course, trevin wakes up teagan who gets up too... even if it's a bit early for him. normally teagan needs a nap around 12 or 1, but that day, trevin woke him up so early, he fell asleep in his cereal by 10. =)

^ the boys in a rare moment of non-movement. i'm pretty sure they're watching a movie. they never sit still otherwise. and, even w/a movie on, they don't sit still long!

^ one of my last pregnant pics. this one was taken the 15th so i'm just about 37 weeks along.

^ teagan is more likely to be caught sitting still than trevin. he's my cuddler. =)

^ this is me saying "don't touch that teagan!"

^ and this is him touching it. *sigh*

^ tigers!
the circus came to town april 17th and, although we were leaving to go see shane in the hospital the next day, i had already made plans to go, so why not?

^ the tigers jumping through the rings of fire!

^this is trevin watching the flying trapeeze act. he really liked the circus. teagan, on the other hand, was a bit out of control. that and the fact that it was past our bedtime, i still needed to pack for our trip to see shane and we had to drive 8 hrs the next day, caused us to leave at the intermission. maybe next year we'll see the whole thing. =)
